Unsettled Scandinavia

Friday
Hot and dry across Spain and Portugal, approaching 40C in the south, but nearer 25C on the Biscay coast. The dry weather continues across the Mediterranean, and temperatures will again soar, 37C in the south of France, 40C in parts of central Italy, the Balkans and Hungary. Some thunderstorms for Turkey and Cyprus, whilst Greece stays dry. Thunderstorms are also likely across the Alps and into the Czech Republic, perhaps southern Poland.
Meanwhile, northern Europe is much cooler, with low pressure over Scandinavia producing a fresh west of south-westerly wind, 19 to 23C. Showers for Denmark, but largely dry for Germany and the Low Countries. A few showers in northern France. Areas of persistent rain for Norway, central Sweden and Finland. Drier toward the far north.

Saturday
The north to south contrast continues across Europe, with scorching temperatures extending from Iberia across the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, widely approaching or topping 40C. Breezy for Portugal and northern Spain. A fair day for much of France, feeling fresh in the north as a cold front passes southwards. Isolated thunderstorms are possible over the Pyrenees and southern France. Thundery again across the Alps, but dry weather continues for Italy, Greece and the Balkans. Scattered storms for eastern Europe, but plenty of dry weather. Outbreaks of rain for Germany and the Low Countries. Unsettled for Scandinavia with persistent rain in south & western Norway. Rain for central Sweden and southern Finland. Remaining drier in the far north.
