A bitterly cold day with a strong northwest winds and wintry showers

Good morning,

Get set for a cold one today as the north to northwest wind continues to bite. Severe gales affect Scotland. There will be some wintry showers, most around the coasts and hills through the west, north and east. There is the threat of some accumulating snow over Scotland and the hills of northern England and Wales. Elsewhere it will be brighter with some sunny spells and feeling cold.

This afternoon stays cold in a brisk north to northwest wind. Again the showers will be affecting the coasts and hills and these fall as snow. If you're protected from the showers it should be a pleasant day with some good spells of sunshine.

Overnight there will be further wintry showers, most on coasts again. Inland areas stay dry with clear spells allowing frost and ice to form too.
