Early severe gales
Sunny spells & showers

Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 18th January 2018
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Early severe gales, clearing quickly, then sunny spells with western showers

Good morning,

A windy start to this morning across much of England and Wales with gusts to 70mph very early on. Remaining rain, sleet and snow clearing away into the North Sea quickly. Brighter weather following quickly from the west with sunny spells. Showers on western coasts and hills, some wintry.

This afternoon becomes cooler with sunny spells and mostly dry weather. A few showers affecting more western coasts, just an isolated shower elsewhere. Winds generally fresh and from the west.

Overnight the showers continue on western coasts and hills, one or two heavier ones moving into western Scotland and Ireland, these increasingly becoming wintry. Moe central, estern and southern parts of the country will be dry.
