Issued: 0530hrs Friday 19th May 2017
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Coud and rain in the east drifting north, heavy showers in the west

Good morning,

We've a small area of low pressure drifting northwards along eastern coasts of England today. This has a broad area of cloud and outbreaks of rain associated with it, and this will be affecting eastern England through much of this morning. Becoming drier from the south as the afternoon progresses, with the rain by then affecting northeast England and eastern Scotland.

More western areas tending to be drier with sunny spells here through this morning. Showers are going to be affecting western Ireland early on this morning. Large shower couds then develop in the rest of Ireland, Wales and western England through the late morning and into the afternoon. These produce heavy showers, some of them thundery.

A damp night for central nd eastern Scotland with outbreaks of rain continuing here. It may take some time for the showers to fade from the rest of the UK and Ireland this evening before becoming mostly dry tonight.
