Heavy wintry showers, most ot the north and west, cold for all

Good morning,

A windy morning with heavy, frequent showers to the north and west. The showers will be wintry, especially on hills but increasingly at lower levels as colder air arrives. Eastern areas will be drier with sunny spells and occasionally showers but should be mostly dry.

This afternoon stays windy and cold for all. There will be further heavy showers, some thundery, most in the north and west. The showers falling as sleet and snow, even at low levels with the risk of a covering of snow in Scotland, western England, Wales and Ireland. Eastern parts probably staying drier with more scattered showers and some good spells of sunshine.

The wintry showers continue overnight in western areas with mostly dry weather in the east and south. Remaining windy and staying cold in the wind.
