Overnight frost is expected

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 16th December 2017
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Few showers across the west, locally wintry, otherwise a mainly dry day ahead after a cold start

Good morning,

It's a cold start to the weekend with a widespread frost along with some icy conditions too. A few showers are expected acorss parts of NW England, down into Wales and SW England through the morning, this mostly of rain, but with a little sleet or snow across more inland areas.

Through the afternoon and not a great deal will change with a few showers across more western areas, but otherwise emphasis is on a lot of dry weather with some bright or sunny spells, but it will remain cold across most areas, despite the winter sunshine.

Into Saturday evening and, overall, it will be mainly dry with some clear spells across England and Wales in particular and this does mean another frost is expected. Through the course of Saturday night though it will become cloudier, windier and with some rain and drizzle developing across W Scotland and Ireland, with a rise in temperatures here. Across England and Wales though it will remain mainly dry, clear and chilly.

Matthew
