Morning Call - January 21, 2018
Turning Wet
Milder Later

Issued: 0530hrs Sunday 20th January 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Wet weather moves north and east, cold at first then milder

Good morning,

A cold start across northern and eastern areas, but outbreaks of rain and drizzle are already dominating across more southern and western areas and will continue to move slowly north and east through the rest of the morning, turning to snow as it interacts with colder air from N England northwards.

Wet weather will continue to move north and east with a spell of snow, perhaps with local significant accumulations across N England and Scotland into the afternoon, while somewhat drier conditions follow from the west, but importantly all areas will start to see milder conditions arrive, perhaps except the far north and east of Scotland.

Scattered showers are expected across more northern and western regions into Sunday but these of rain and a thaw of any lying snow is expected across the north. Longer spells of rain will, however, return to parts of Wales and SW England especially later in the night, a much milder night for all areas of the UK.
