Heavy seas south & west, risk coastal flooding

Good morning,

A deep area of low pressure passes north-eastwards across the British Isles today, named 'Storm Brian' by the Met Office/Met Eireann.

An occluded front passes quickly east into the North Sea before dawn, leaving central & eastern England dry and bright for many hours. A wrap around of heavy showers follows from the west, resulting in persistent heavy rain at times for west & northern Britain & Ireland, with local hail and thunder possible.

Bursts of rain will spread across central England through the afternoon, and frequent showers will continue into tonight across the north & north-west of England & Wales, plus south-west Scotland & Northern Ireland.

Gales or severe gales around the southern flank of the low for south Britain and Ireland, gusts 60-70mph+ for exposed spots. Inland gusts of 40-50mph are possible. The strongest winds transferring north & east across England later in the day. Large swells and huge waves for the coasts in the south & south-west.

Today's top temperatures will be between 11 and 15C, coolest where rain persists.

Have a great day.
Garry
