Sunshine and showers, then becoming dry for many

Changeable weather continues this weekend and early next week, with areas of rain and some heavy showers, although there will be dry and bright periods, with Sunday generally dry for much of England & Wales. From midweek onward, pressure is likely to build, bringing a drier spell for central & southern Britain heading into mid-August, although rain may affect the north-west from time to time.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Monday 07/08/17
A shallow area of low pressure influences Britain & Ireland. Fronts are expected to become slow-moving across central regions, bringing a risk of persistent rain for many hours for central, western & northern England & Wales. Showery for Ireland & Scotland. Very little rain may reach the south-east, where some hazy sun is possible, and feeling warm and humid here. Winds fairly light. Highs 16 to 22C, coolest where rain lingers.

Tuesday 08/08/17
A west to north-westerly pattern develops as low pressure moves east over the North Sea. A freshening breeze in western areas. Showers are expected, these forming into bands across central & eastern districts by afternoon, giving locally frequent rain, with some heavy and thundery downpours possible. Becoming brighter for the west & south-west as pressure builds, with scattered showers and sunny spells. Highs 17 to 22C.

Wednesday 09/08/17
High pressure to the west and low pressure to the east maintains a northerly flow. A good deal of sunshine, although a few areas of showers are possible, these most likely toward the south & east, locally heavy, but these very hit and miss. Western areas generally drier, but expect scattered showers. Breezy, and quite cool where exposed. Feeling warm in sunny spells. Highs 18 to 23C.

Thursday 10/08/17
High pressure centred toward the south-west builds slowly across Britain, giving a fair day for most places. Local showers possible, but most places dry. Winds becoming fairly light. Feeling warmer, highs 19 to 24C.

Friday 11/08/17
Fronts returning across the north-west may bring outbreaks of rain to Scotland & N.Ireland, whilst high pressure toward the south should keep central & southern Britain dry and bright. Warm in the south-east. Highs 18 to 25C.

Saturday 12/08/17
A similar pattern with high pressure to the south maintaining dry weather for many, whilst some rain is possible in western Scotland. A south-westerly breeze, strongest in the north. Warm in the south, highs 19 to 26C.
