Showers for most today on a brisk northwesterly breeze; some risk of heavy showers with isolated thunder in northeast England and east Scotland.

A frontal system slips southeastward through the UK today, bringing rain and showers to most. The rain will be most persistent with heavy spells in the morning across Britain, breaking into showers that gradually scatter away from west and southwest areas. Showers will linger in north England and Scotland with a risk of heavy showers in eastern Britain due to sea breezes; risk of a local lightning strike here. Sunny spells will break out with time, most notably in northern Scotland and southwest England. Quite a windy day as well across Ireland, Wales and England. Highs of 16 to 20C in most north and western areas, up to 28C in the far southeast of England.

Lingering showers will ease overnight with many skies clearing cloud, mostly across south and east areas (including eastern Scotland). Wind eases too, though still notably breezy along west coasts. A few patchy showers drifting into northwest Ireland and west Scotland on the wind, but rainfall amounts will stay small overnight. Lows of 10 to 12C.
